Ensuring the safety of our guests while they take part in Universal's high thrill attractions is a critical mission for Universal. As is making sure universal parks is a welcoming experience for all. In order to ensure that every guest had a pleasant experience, I developed an AR tool that would allow our team members to measure guests constrained to a wheelchair for height ridership requirements without the need for them to exit their wheelchair.
My Role and Responsibilities
Develop
For my first project as a software intern for Universal, I had the unique opportunity to take the reins on this project as the primary developer taking it into release. I was responsible for refactoring a prototypical codebase for iOS deployment using unity's AR foundations for mapping, displaying, and editing digital content.
Deploy
I worked with other engineers to coordinate QA testing and validation, and then worked with health services to deploy the tool for release and support development afterwards.
Lessons learned
Working on this project has been an amazing opportunity. ADA accessibility is a critically important issue in location based entertainment. We need to make sure that the lands and worlds we design are enjoyable for all people. Working on this project has given me an appreciation for the value of work that helps to make sure all guests that come to our parks have a pleasant experience.
