role
Advanced technologies intern
Volcano bay is a water theme park unlike any released before it. Utilizing wearable wrist bands issued to guests when they arrive, they can enjoy the rest and relaxation of the tropical water park while they wait in a virtual queue for the thrilling attractions in the land!
My Role and Responsibilities
While working on this project, I helped the ATI-R&D team release the innovative new technology that made this park possible : the Tapu-Tapu wearable band. My responsibilities included updating firmware, QA testing, and asset management. I helped the team train operators on using the technology and worked with them to perform stress testing on the parks Virtual line system.
Impact
This project was my first time opening a new theme park, and it was an invaluable experience that started my career in the themed design industry. It taught me just how much work and skill it takes to be a part of the team at Universal. And it was the kind generosity and incredible talent of my coworkers in ATI that also taught me just how much I wanted to be a part of that team. (shoutout to Matt and Anthony: I would not be in this industry if it weren't for you two)
After helping the R&D team at Universal open the park, I worked in Volcano bay as a virtual line operator while I went back to school to get my degree in areas I knew would be needed, all so that I could help open Universal's next innovative attractions and parks.
